What ever happened to Google Knowls? It was announced on December 13th last year with much discussion here on DLTJ and elsewhere on the blogosphere. It would seem uncharacteristic of Google to announce something like that and keep the world waiting for months to see at least a beta of the concept. Is there some sort of technical problem with the concept? Legal or business model problem? Or was it just a trial balloon for a service yet to be developed and Google wanted some free market resear

The future of English

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Ooh, this combines two of my favorite things: languages and the future. John Scalzi’s grammar bitch of the day (granted, that day was a while ago) touches on one of those small spelling differences, specifically ‘alright’ vs ‘all right’. While I disagree with Mr. Scalzi on this point (’alright’ is usable as that Lichtenstein art he has up, though I’d ask somebody “Are you all right?”), it’s something to think about when discussing the differences between English spellings. I’ve spent all

In recent years Wikipedia entries for any number of topics can be found in the top or Google’s search engine results, which naturally leads to huge amounts of traffic. Traffic that goes to pages that very conspicuously do not

Google what ? Google Knol

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Google what ? Google Knol When I found out about Google’s latest project I was pretty kind of excited. I always want to deliver this type of intuitive project. The more I learnt about this information science industry, the more I love this job. This is more I am trying to understand the nuts and bolts of knowledge […]

Nursing home patients who take antipsychotic drugs are 60 percent more likely to develop pneumonia in the short term than those who don’t take the drugs, a new study shows. The risk is greatest during the first week after patients start taking the medications and gradually decreases, say Dutch researchers. “The risk of developing pneumonia is not associated with long-term use, but is the highest shortly after starting the drug,” said study authors Dr. Rob van Marum and Dr. Wilma Knol.
